{"id":9145,"date":"2026-04-21T08:10:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T22:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/destinationthailand.tv\/?p=9145"},"modified":"2026-10-05T15:44:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T05:44:14","slug":"death-railway-kanchanaburi-stunning-wang-pho-viaduct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webengine.work\/DTN\/death-railway-kanchanaburi-stunning-wang-pho-viaduct\/","title":{"rendered":"DEATH RAILWAY KANCHANABURI | Stunning WANG PHO Viaduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wang Pho Viaduct<\/p>\n<p>This stunning piece of railway engineering, a wooden trestle bridge clinging to the side of a cliff, overlooking the Khwae Noi River, was built by Allied prisoners of war and Asian labourers under Japanese rule during WWII.<\/p>\n<p>Spanning around 400 meters it was constructed in just 17 days in 1943 by prisoners under brutal conditions.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100,000 lives were lost during the construction of this Thai-Burma railway.<\/p>\n<p>Tham Kra Sae cave is a natural limestone formation right next to the railway line. During the war, it was used as a shelter and camp for Allied POWs and Japanese soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a place of reflection.
