IMPACT Challenger, near Don Muang Airport in the north of Bangkok, is widely considered as one of the best and most important large-scale motor exhibitions in Asia.<\/p>\n
Recently we visited Thailand\u2019s International Motor Expo to check-out DUCATI\u2019s launch of their new dirt-bike and enduro models to Asia \u2026.. particularly the Desmo 450 MX.<\/p>\n
A notable expansion beyond their sport and street bikes.<\/p>\n
It was the centrepiece and drew heavy crowds. This was DUCATI\u2019S boldest technical statement in decades. They hadn\u2019t built a pure dirt-racing motorcycle since the 1971 Ducati 450 R\/T, which was produced in very small numbers and disappeared quickly.<\/p>\n
When DUCATI began teasing its DESMO 450 MX project in in 2023 , the announcement sparked disbelief in the motorcycle community.<\/p>\n
Well \u2026\u2026 here it is \u2026.. launching to the Asia market.<\/p>\n

\nWith a 450cc single-cyclinder 4 stroke engine, it uses Ducati\u2019s signature design with no valve springs to allow the engine to rev faster and reduces engine braking, apparently giving it a very \u2018lively throttle\u201d for dirt riding \u2026.. suitable for the experienced. It\u2019s high revving nature, allows a 11,900 RPM limit, the highest revving engine in its class, allowing riders to shift less, keeping momentum in its tight corners.<\/p>\n
The launch price level was around $15,500 Australian dollars.<\/p>\n
Will Ducati\u2019s design language, electronics and cost base naturally fit the lightweight, aggressive, hard hitting MX World? It will be interesting how it compares to the similar KTM, Honda or Yamaha\u2019s in this sector.<\/p>\n
Something to contemplate \u2026.. as we choose the most stress-free mode of escaping Bangkok\u2019s late afternoon traffic. Jumping on to the PINK line at the exhibition\u2019s dedicated train station! Muang Thong Thani! An expo that was well worth visiting!<\/p>\n
