The situation was most severe near canals. Even Don Muang airport was flooded across the tarmacs.<\/p>\n<p>Although not all parts of Bangkok were submerged, the city declared all 50 districts a flood disaster area to help authorities respond quickly. More than 200 shelters were set up across the city to assist thousands of people.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the coastal city of Pattaya, 1.5 hours drive from Bangkok, placed nine flood-prone areas under 24-hour surveillance as the city battled heavy rain and flash floods.
